Abrasion resistance
When the blank is plastically deformed in the mold cavity, it flows and slides along the cavity surface, causing severe friction between the cavity surface and the blank, resulting in the failure of the 2k mold due to wear.

The operating conditions of 2k molds are mostly harsh, and some are often subjected to large shock loads, which can lead to brittle fractures. In order to prevent 2k mold parts from suddenly brittle during work, 2k mold should have high strength and toughness.
Fatigue fracture performance
The fatigue fracture properties of 2k mold are mainly determined by its strength, toughness, hardness, and the amount of inclusions in the material.
High temperature performance
When the operating temperature of the 2k mold is high, the hardness and strength will decrease, resulting in early wear or plastic deformation of the mold and failure.
Resistance to cold and heat fatigue
Some 2k molds are in a state of repeated heating and cooling during the working process, which causes the surface of the cavity to be subjected to tension and pressure to change stress, causing surface cracking and spalling, increasing friction, hindering plastic deformation, and reducing dimensional accuracy, resulting in the failure of 2k mold.
Corrosion resistance
When some 2k molds such as plastic molds are working, due to the presence of chlorine, fluorine and other elements in the plastic, strong corrosive gases such as hci and hf are separated after heating, which erodes the surface surface of the 2k mold cavity, increases its surface roughness, and aggravates wear and failure. Therefore, it is necessary to choose materials with excellent corrosion resistance in 2k mold processing.

From the way of surface treatment, it can be divided into: chemical method, physical method, physicochemical method, mechanical method, etc. Although new treatment technologies are emerging to improve the surface properties of molds, nitriding, carburizing, and hardened film deposition are still the main treatments used in mold manufacturing.
The nitriding process includes gas nitriding, ion nitriding, liquid nitriding, etc., and each nitriding method contains several nitriding technologies, which can adapt to the requirements of different steel grades and different workpieces. Because the nitriding technology can form a surface with excellent performance, and the nitriding process has a good coordination with the quenching process of the die steel, the nitriding temperature is low, and the deformation of the mold is very small, so the surface strengthening nitriding technology of the mold is adopted earlier and is the most widely used.
The purpose of mold carburizing is mainly to improve the overall strength and toughness of the mold, that is, the working surface of the mold has high strength and wear resistance. The technical idea presented here is to reduce manufacturing costs by replacing higher grades of materials with lower grades, i.e., by carburizing and quenching.
