Heating and melting
The plastic material is fed into a barrel, where it is heated to a molten state. The temperature must be carefully controlled to ensure the material flows easily and fills the mold.
Injection of material
Once the material is molten, the injection machine uses a screw or plunger to inject the molten plastic into the mold cavity at high pressure. This ensures that the material fills every part of the mold, including the intricate teeth and other details.
Cooling
The injected plastic is allowed to cool and solidify inside the mold. Cooling time depends on the material and the thickness of the part. Proper cooling is essential for preventing warping or dimensional distortion.
Mold venting
Proper venting within the mold ensures that air is released during injection, preventing air pockets and ensuring a complete fill.
Cooling and solidification
Once the part has cooled and solidified, the mold opens, and the gear part is ejected from the mold cavity. The ejector pins or other mechanisms push the gear out.
Inspection
After ejection, the part should be inspected for quality, ensuring that the gear teeth are properly formed and that the part meets dimensional specifications. Any defects, such as air bubbles or incomplete molding, should be addressed.
Post-Processing of Gear-Transmission
Trimming and deflashing: Any excess material (called flash) around the parting line of the mold must be trimmed away. This is especially important for gears, as the teeth need to be smooth and clean.
Surface finishing: Depending on the application, the gears May need additional surface treatments like polishing or coating to enhance wear resistance, reduce friction, or improve aesthetics.
