Advantages of Medical

Cost efficiency

While creating tooling requires a significant amount of time and money upfront, injection molding is extremely cost-effective at high volumes. Bulk injection molding will spread the tooling cost across thousands of parts, lowering the overall cost-per-part.

01

High levels of accuracy

Injection molding is known for its accuracy and repeatability, making it perfect for the medical industry, where the slightest mistake can cause a part or device to fail. Injection molding allows companies to quickly create hundreds or thousands of identical parts while providing exceptional accuracy and adhering to tight tolerances.

02

A wide range of compatible materials

Compared to all other manufacturing processes, injection molding has one of the widest material selections. While some materials aren’t suitable for use in the medical industry, there are still many materials capable of meeting the industry’s various requirements and regulations.

03

Superior strength, durability and mechanical properties

Injection molded parts are quite strong and durable. They May also be resistant to vibrations, impacts, and harsh environments. Some are resistant to heat, meaning they can be easily and repeatedly sterilized via an autoclave without suffering any damage.

Features of Medical

High precision: Medical injection moulds use five-axis cnc machining and edm precision molding technology, and the tolerance of key components can be controlled within the range of ±0.005mm, which is better than the industry standard of ±0.02mm. Secondly, the closed-loop temperature control system (accuracy ±0.3℃) ensures the stability of the molding process, so that the weight fluctuation of micro-structure components such as insulin pen cartridges and infusion connectors is less than 0.5%, meeting the iso 20417 medical device production specification requirements.

Aseptic molding design: Our mold cavity surface is mirror polished (ra≤0.1μm) and plasma chromized, and with a fully enclosed ejection system, the surface bacteria attachment of the mold is less than 5cfu/cm² after 72 hours of continuous production.

Types of Medical Injection Moulds

Medical plastic injection molding

Including two types of structural molds: Compression molding and injection molding. They are a type of mold mainly used to mold thermosetting plastics, and the corresponding equipment is a pressure molding machine.

01

Plastic extrusion medical injection mold

A type of medical plastic injection molding used to form plastic products of continuous shapes, also known as extrusion molding, is widely used in the processing of pipes, rods, monofilaments, plates, films, profiles, etc.

02

Plastic blow molding medical injection mold

A mold used to form various packaging containers such as plastic container hollow products (such as medicine bottles).

03

Blister medical plastic injection mold

A mold that uses plastic plates and sheets as raw materials to form some simpler plastic products. Its principle is to use vacuum expansion method or compressed air molding method to deform the plastic plates and sheets fixed on the concave or convex mold under heating and softening conditions and stick them to the mold cavity to form the required molded product.

04

High foam polystyrene molding medical injection mold

A medical plastic injection molding that uses expandable polystyrene (beaded material composed of polystyrene and foaming agent) raw materials to form various required shapes of foam plastic packaging materials.

Applications of Medical

Injection molding offers high levels of accuracy, compatibility with FDA-approved materials, the ability to achieve ISO 13485 compliance, and a low cost-per-part, making it ideal for many medical applications. Medical injection molding can be used to create components for dental X-ray equipment, catheter locks, diagnostic testing kit components, personal protection equipment, microfluidic devices, and surgical and drug delivery equipment.

Other medical plastic injection molding applications include orthopedics, syringes, Petri dishes, and pipettes, as well as parts, housings, and casings for medical devices, electronic devices, and computerized medical equipment. Injection molding is ideal for situations that require high volumes of durable, accurate, and sterilization-friendly parts.

FAQ

Q: What are medical injection moulds?

A: Medical injection moulds are molds used to produce medical devices and components through the injection molding process. These molds are designed with precision and must meet strict safety, regulatory, and quality standards due to the critical nature of the medical industry.

Q: What materials are used in medical injection moulds?

A: Medical injection moulds typically use biocompatible materials such as medical-grade polypropylene (PP), polycarbonate (PC), polyethylene (PE), and medical-grade PVC. These materials are chosen for their safety, strength, and ability to withstand sterilization methods.

Q: Why is precision important in medical injection moulds?

A: Precision is crucial in medical injection moulds because medical devices often require tight tolerances to ensure proper functionality and safety. Even small deviations in size or shape can result in product failure or harm to patients, so accuracy is paramount.

Q: How are medical injection moulds sterilized?

A: Medical injection moulds and their products are designed to withstand various sterilization methods, including autoclaving (high-pressure steam), chemical sterilization, and gamma radiation. Materials used for molding must maintain their structural integrity and performance after sterilization.

Q: What are the advantages of using injection moulding for medical products?

A: Injection moulding offers several advantages, including high precision, fast production rates, the ability to create complex shapes, and the option to use a wide variety of materials.

Q: What types of medical products are made using injection moulding?

A: A variety of medical products are made using injection moulding, including syringes, IV components, diagnostic devices, surgical tools, drug delivery systems, and implantable devices.
